COVID-19 Response

If you are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms (cough, fever, shortness of breath) or have been in contact with someone that tested positive, please do not use public transportation. Help prevent the spread of COVID-19. If urgent medical care is needed, use a personal vehicle or call an ambulance to get to the provider's location.

If you think or know you had COVID-19, and had symptoms, you can be with others after

  • 3 days with no fever and
  • Respiratory symptoms have improved (e.g. cough, shortness of breath) and
  • 10 days since symptoms first appeared

April 18, 2022-Bismarck, N.D. - Masks are no longer required on CAT and Bis-Man Transit paratransit buses.

From the Federal Transit Administration:

"As a result of a court order, effective immediately and as of April 18, 2022, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) January 29, 2021 Order requiring masks on public transportation conveyances and at transportation hubs is no longer in effect.

Therefore, CDC will not enforce the Order. CDC continues to recommend that people wear masks in indoor public transportation settings at this time.

In addition, effective immediately, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will not enforce its mask-related Security Directives. TSA is also withdrawing its Security Directive 1582/84-21-01E, which was issued on April 15, 2022."

April 13, 2022-Bismarck, N.D. - At CDC's recommendation, TSA will extend the Security Directives and Emergency Amendment requiring mask use on public transportation and transportation hubs for 15 days through May 3, 2022. This includes Bis-Man Transit buses.

CDC continues to monitor the spread of the Omicron COVID-19 variant, especially the BA.2 subvariant that now makes up more than 85% of U.S. cases. Since early April 2022, there have been increases in the 7-day moving average of COVID-19 cases in the United States. During the 15-day extension period, CDC will assess the potential impact the recent rise of COVID-19 cases has on severe disease, including hospitalizations, deaths, and healthcare system capacity. TSA will continue to coordinate closely with CDC and communicate any changes to this requirement with the public. To read more click here.



March 10, 2022-Bismarck, N.D. - At CDC's recommendation, TSA will extend the security directive for mask use on public transportation and transportation hubs for one month, through April 18th. This includes Bis-Man Transit buses.

During that time, CDC will work with government agencies to help inform a revised policy framework for when, and under what circumstances, masks should be required in the public transportation corridor. This revised framework will be based on the COVID-19 community levels, risk of new variants, national data, and the latest science. August 20, 2021-Bismarck, N.D. - The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is extending the face mask requirement for individuals across all transportation networks throughout the United States, including at airports, onboard commercial aircraft, on over-the-road buses, and on commuter bus and rail systems through March 18, 2022. June 28, 2021 - Bismarck, N.D. - Effective June 28, 2021, Bis-Man Transit will lift restrictions and protocols that were put into place at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) mask requirement for riders and staff will remain in place through September 13, 2021. This mandate is a federal requirement due to the the presidential executive order 13998. Face coverings will continue to be required on all Bis-Man Transit vehicles and in the Bis-Man Transit facility.

The safety protocols that will be lifted include limiting passenger capacity on fixed route and paratransit buses, limiting building access, and performing temperature screening for staff and guests. In addition, paratransit and demand response riders will no longer be restricted to scheduling one day in advance, and can schedule rides up to 14 days in advance.

In addition to mandatory face coverings, the following safety protocols will continue to remain in place:

•Masks are provided to riders, if necessary.
•Hand sanitizer is available onboard each bus for all riders.
•All vehicles are deep cleaned and disinfected nightly.

As a reminder, Bis-Man Transit urges riders to practice safe hygiene to help prevent the spread of germs, including wearing a mask properly, washing hands frequently and thoroughly, and refraining from riding when feeling sick.

October 29, 2020 - Bismarck, N.D. - Bis-Man Transit recognizes the importance of protecting the health and well-being of our riders, staff, and community. Because of this, face coverings will be required on all Bis-Man Transit vehicles operating in Bismarck, effective Sunday, November 1, in accordance with the City of Bismarck's safety guidelines. This includes both fixed route and paratransit services operating in Bismarck. Masks (or other face coverings) must be worn while you are riding the bus in Bismarck.

If you board a bus without a face covering, bus operators will provide a complimentary disposable mask.

Passengers with medical conditions or disabilities that prevent them from wearing a face covering will not be required to wear one. Masks are not recommended for children under 2 years old.

Passengers who do not follow this policy may be denied service, or asked to leave the Bis-Man Transit vehicle.

Face coverings are also required for drivers when they are near passengers or other staff, both on the bus and at bus stops.



May 28, 2020 - Bismarck, N.D. - Bis-Man Transit has extended fare suspension for both Fixed Route and Paratransit Services to June 30, 2020. With the Bis-Man Transit Facility being open by appointment only, we feel ticket purchases may be difficult for some riders.

The fare structure listed below will resume July 1, 2020.

•Paratransit One Way Ride - $3.00
•CAT One Way Ride (Full Fare) - $1.50
•CAT One Way Ride (Reduced Fare) - $0.75
•Certified Paratransit Riders and individuals over 65 can ride the CAT for free.
•Students, Veterans, and Medicare card holders qualify for reduced fare rates.
Must be able to provide identification upon boarding



May 4, 2020 - Bismarck, N.D. - In response to Governor Burgum's amended executive order for "North Dakota Smart Restart", Bis-Man Transit will be resuming all CAT Bus and paratransit services on Monday, May 11th.

Paratransit Hours: Monday to Saturday - 5:30AM to 12:00AM; Sunday - 7:30AM to 2:30PM
CAT Bus Hours: Monday to Friday - 6:30AM to 7:00PM; Saturday - 8:00AM to 7:00PM; Sunday - Closed

With the guidance of the North Dakota Smart Restart protocols, Bis-Man Transit has developed the following safety guidelines for operators, staff, and riders.

•Each staff member will be pre-screened prior to each shift.
•All operators will be required to wear cloth face masks.
•Contact surfaces on all buses will be disinfected throughout the day, in addition to nightly deep cleaning and disinfecting.
•Capacity on CAT Buses will be limited to adhere to the Center for Disease Control guidelines.
-In the event a CAT Bus capacity has reached its limit, additional riders will not be allowed to board the vehicle until current riders exit.
•Portions of each CAT Bus will be blocked off to promote safe social distancing for both riders and operators.
•Paratransit buses will be limited to three passengers per vehicle.
•All riders are encouraged to wear cloth face masks when utilizing public transportation.
•To keep other riders and operators safe, we ask that you do not ride if you have any indication that you might be ill or have been exposed to COVID-19; if riding transit is your only way to get help, wear a mask, cough into your elbow, and minimize touching surfaces with your hands.
•Fare suspension will be extended to June 1st.

The Bis-Man Transit Facility will be open to the public Monday thru Friday 8:00AM to 5:00PM on a per appointment basis. Please call our administrative office at 701.258.6817 to schedule an appointment.

Our goal at Bis-Man Transit is to continue linking people, jobs and communities. During this unprecedented time, we feel we can successfully accomplish this if we work together to follow all implemented protocols. The Bis-Man staff and Transit Board will continue to actively monitor the situation and make changes as deemed necessary.

April 2, 2020 - Bismarck, N.D. - Bis-Man Transit will continue with the service changes that were put in place on March 23, 2020, until further notice. The Crisis Task Force will be meeting weekly to discuss any future changes.



March 20, 2020 - Bismarck, N.D. - Our goal at Bis-Man Transit is to continue providing needed transportation to our communities throughout this difficult time and that we are taking necessary actions to keep our riders and staff safe.
Effective Monday, March 23rd, the following changes to public transit will be put in place.

•CAT Bus service will be suspended starting Monday, March 23rd and continuing until further notice.
•Additional paratransit vehicles will be placed in service to accommodate fixed route riders who are going to essential locations (grocery stores, work, doctor appointments, and pharmacies).
•The temporary bus service will be in operation Monday to Saturday from 5:30am to 8pm.
•Paratransit service will be in operation Monday to Saturday from 5:30am to 8pm and Sunday from 7:30am to 2:30pm.
•Riders who wish to use the temporary service will follow the same scheduling guidelines as paratransit riders. Rides must be scheduled one day in advance by calling 701.223.9001.
•CAT Bus and paratransit trips will be scheduled on separate buses.
•In order to abide by the CDC's social distancing recommendations, passengers onboard will be limited to 3 at any given time for both services.
•The number of trips we are able to complete on the temporary bus service is limited and will be scheduled on a first come first serve basis.
•All travel is limited to essential locations only.
•All fares for both modes will be waived during this time.

As previously stated, all changes will go into effect on March 23rd and will be in place until further notice. Bis-Man Transit Staff and Board of Directors will continually monitor the status of the current situation and may make additional changes to service as deemed necessary.

Effective March 23, 2020, the Bis-Man Transit Facility will restrict public access until further notice. Staff will remain on site to answer all phone calls and handle trip reservations during normal hours of operation.
If you wish to purchase transit tickets or CAT bus passes, you may do so with a credit card by calling our office at 701.258.6817. Passes will be mailed out and cannot be picked up on location. Tickets can also be purchased at Cash-Wise Foods and Dan's Supermarket locations throughout Bismarck and Mandan.
Bis-Man Transit takes the COVID-19 situation very seriously. In order to mitigate the spread of the virus, bus operators will be disinfecting contact surfaces throughout the day as needed, in addition to nightly deep cleaning on every vehicle.

Our goal is to provide transit service to our communities as long as possible, however we are constantly monitoring the situation.
