Bis-Man Transit Records Highest CAT Bus Ridership Numbers In Over 10 Years
November 1, 2024 - Bismarck, N.D. – In October 2024, Bis-Man Transit provided 13,348 trips on the CAT bus, which is the highest monthly ridership number for the CAT bus in over 10 years. Bis-Man Transit’s direct route paratransit bus system provided 8,169 passenger trips last month. Overall ridership for the month of October, 2024 was 21,517 total passenger trips provided between the CAT bus and paratransit service.
This year’s CAT bus ridership for October is 19.4% higher than October 2023 (10,756 CAT trips provided), and 41.4% higher than October 2022 (7,822 CAT trips provided). Overall ridership for both CAT bus & paratransit last month was 29.2% higher than October 2023, and 27.3% higher than October 2022.
Bis-Man Transit Executive Director Deidre Hughes said, “Historically, October is one of our highest ridership months, but breaking 13,000 trips is even better than we anticipated. Four years ago, we didn’t know if the CAT bus ridership would ever rebound from the pandemic, and now we are celebrating having the highest ridership month in over ten years. It’s a testament to the continued focus on improving the quality and reliability of our community’s public transportation system.”
Capital Area Transit, better known as the CAT, is Bis-Man Transit’s fixed-route public bus system serving Bismarck and Mandan, N.D. The CAT was started in 2004. Bis-Man Transit celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the CAT bus in May, 2024, and currently runs five CAT routes in Bismarck and one CAT route in Mandan. Bis-Man Transit’s paratransit service complements the fixed route service by providing transportation for those who are incapable of riding the fixed route service. Paratransit services are also available to senior citizens 70 years or older.
