Bismarck, N.D. – A permanent transfer point for the community’s public bus transportation system has been established north of the Bismarck Event Center.
The new transfer point for Capital Area Transit (CAT) will be on the south side of Front Avenue, between Fifth and Seventh Streets. Service will begin from the new transfer point beginning Monday, October 3.
“We are excited to again have a permanent location for our transfer point,” said Bis-Man Transit Executive Director Roy Rickert. “We want to extend a huge thank you to the City of Bismarck for helping us with the temporary transfer point to the southwest of the Event Center, as well as working with us to create this new point.”
This CAT transfer point replaces the one that had been located in the Kirkwood Mall parking lot, and was moved to a temporary location southwest of the Event Center in July due to construction.
The transfer point has the highest route volume of any transfer point in the city bus’s system. Routes affected by the transfer point move include the A-1, A-2, B-1, B-2, E-1, E-2, M-1 and M-2. These routes will be affected as follows:
A-1 and A-2 Routes: Both routes will depart the new transfer point and travel south on Seventh Street, connecting with the traditional route, but not entering the Kirkwood Mall parking lot. Near the end of both routes, the buses will travel south on Seventh Street, turn west onto Bowen, north onto Fifth and east onto Front, ending at the new transfer point.
B-1 Route: Buses will depart from the new transfer point, turning south onto Seventh and joining back on the traditional route, turning west onto Bowen. The route has been altered slightly, so that it will turn east onto Wachter from Reno. At the end of the route, the bus will travel west on Front from Twelfth Ave., south on Seventh, west on Bowen, and north on Fifth Street and east on Front to the transfer point.
B-2 Route: Buses will depart from the new transfer point, turning south onto Seventh and joining back on the traditional route, turning west onto the Bismarck Expressway. At the end of the route, the bus will travel west on Bismarck Expressway, turning north onto Third Street, and east onto Front. Due to additional mileage added on to this route, the route will no longer divert from South Washington onto London Ave. The bus will turn south off Reno, onto Washington, and then turn east onto Burleigh.
E-1 Route: The bus will depart from the transfer point, turning south onto Seventh Street, west onto Bowen and north on Fifth Street, following the traditional route.
E-2 Route: The route will reach its conclusion as it travels north on Third Street, turning east onto Front Avenue and traveling to the transfer point.
M-1 Route: The route will begin by traveling south on Seventh St., before turning west onto Bowen and traveling along the traditional route.
M-2 Route: The route will reach its conclusion by traveling east on Indiana Ave., north on Third Street, and east on Front to the transfer center.
This new transfer point will be equipped with two shelters and an external bench. One shelter will have a bench, while the other will be open, to allow for multiple modes of accessibility.
