The CAT Bus to Offer Free Rides and Training

Riding The CAT bus around town may seem like a spooky experience for people who have never tried it. On October 29 and 30, the staff and drivers for The CAT hope to spark curiosity and encourage people to “Catch the CAT” by offering free rides those two days in celebration of Halloween.

This is the third year the free Halloween rides promotion will be offered and the focus is on letting potential riders know how easy it is to use the Bismarck-Mandan fixed-route bus service. Three training sessions will be offered to the general public on Tuesday October 26 at the Bismarck Public Library. The 45-minute trainings will be held at 12:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. and will focus on the basics of “Catching the CAT” including reading the maps, waving down the bus, and getting off the bus at your destination.

Another resource for information about riding the buses for the first time will be an information table set up at Kirkwood Mall. The table will be set up in the hallway where the buses stop on the east side of Kirkwood Mall. CAT Bus Marketing Director Misty Staiger, will be available to answer questions. She will be at the information table from 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. on Friday October 29 and from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. on Saturday October 30.

“We are excited here at The CAT Bus to try and get more people to experience how easy and safe it is to get around Bismarck and Mandan using public transportation,” said Staiger. “The addition of the public trainings and the continuation of having the information table at Kirkwood Mall will hopefully give more people confidence to try the bus for the first time during these free ride days.”
