Bis-Man Transit Board Accepting Applications for Open Board Position

Bismarck, N.D. – The Bis-Man Transit Board is accepting applications for an open position on its board, with one year remaining on the term.

The Bis-Man Transit Board oversees the door-to-door paratransit service, as well as the fixed-route Capital Area Transit (CAT) system, and the Jefferson Lines Bus Depot at the Bis-Man Transit Center. A list of current Board members is available at https://bismantransit.com/board-of-directors/.

“The importance of the Transit Board has grown with the organization,” said Board President Marge Ellefson. “We are a multi-million-dollar organization, and subsequently many of the decisions we deal with potentially have some far-reach effects. It is a lot of work, but I think our Board members would also tell you it is very rewarding.”

The Board meets monthly, coming together on the fourth Thursday of each month, with the luncheon meetings traditionally beginning at about 11:30 a.m. Meetings are held at the Bis-Man Transit Center, located at 3750 East Rosser Ave., in Bismarck.

Individuals interested in joining the Board can download the application at BisManTransit.com by navigating over the Paratransit navigation tab, and selecting the Board of Director’s page, or by clicking here. Applicants are encouraged to attend the May 28 meeting, to become more familiar with the Board. A vote will be held to fill the position during the June 25 meeting.

The CAT is the fixed-route public bus system serving Bismarck and Mandan with 12 routes. CAT celebrated its tenth anniversary last year, and provided more than 138,000 rides in 2014. For route information on the go, you can download the free RouteShout app for route information on the go. The Bis-Man Transit paratransit service has been providing door-to-door rides to individuals over the age of 60, as well as individuals with disabilities, since 1990. Nearly 165,000 rides were provided last year.
