Bismarck, N.D. – Capital Area Transit’s (CAT) fleet will not be in service on Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day. The holiday is one of six each year the CAT observes.
The CAT also observes New Year’s Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Service on each of the CAT’s 12 fixed routes will begin at normal times on Tuesday, May 26.
Memorial Day is also the official kick off for the CAT’s Student Summer Pass promotion. For the cost of $20, K-12 and college students can get unlimited rides through Labor Day. K-12 students need only verify their age, while college students must present a current school identification card. This spring’s graduating classes are also eligible for the pass.
Although the administrative offices for Bis-Man Transit will be closed on Memorial Day, the scheduling office and transit buses will be providing service as normal. Bis-Man Transit provides service 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year. The scheduling office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
The Jefferson Lines bus depot will have limited hours of operation on Memorial Day. The depot will be open from 8-9 a.m., and again from 3-4 p.m. The eastbound bus to Fargo, N.D., traditionally leaves Bismarck at 8:25 a.m., with the westbound bus to Billings, Mont., by way of Minot, N.D., and Williston, N.D., leaves at 3:45 p.m. each day.
For CAT route information when the administrative office is closed, Apple and Droid users can download the free RouteShout app. In 2014, the CAT provided more than 138,000 rides, while Bis-Man Transit provided nearly 165,000 rides to individuals with disabilities, as well as individuals over the age of 60.
