In an effort to ease traffic in the Southport area, transportation is now being provided for volunteers who want to help homeowners in that area. Nearly two dozen National Guard soldiers are already working in the Southport area, but more help is needed.
CAT buses are now transporting volunteers to the archery range parking lot on Riverwood Drive. From there, volunteers can walk to the Southport homes and assist homeowners.
Volunteers should meet in the southeast corner of the Kirkwood Mall parking lot (JC Penney wing). CAT buses are also taking volunteers to the city’s sandbag sites. Volunteers should specify whether they want to go to the sandbag sites or to the Southport neighborhood.
Buses will run every 30 minutes until midnight. Tomorrow, buses will run from 6:00 am until midnight to both the Southport neighborhood and the sandbag sites. After midnight, volunteers should contact Taxi 9000 at 223-9000 for transportation to Southport and to the sandbag sites.
